Description

The bolo pictured has been sold. However we have two spider bolos available.  Handwrought 2″ repoussé and chased sterling silver bolo by Paul-René.  – We Have several similar with slight variation on design.  Repoussé (hammered from the back to raise the relief) and chased spider. Chasing is the opposite of repoussé, and the two are used in conjunction to create a finished piece. This is the skill PR is a master of and it was what was during the Mississippian time of the “Mound Builder” Peoples here in the mid-west and southeast. It has been done here in North America (Turtle Island Tolba Menahan’) for thousands of years.   This spider design includes the 4-direction symbol carried on its back representing bringing fire to The People for some the Southeastern peoples. The spider central design is surrounded by “double curve” or “fiddle head ferns” and other Wôbanaki medicine ‘Mide’ plant designs become canoes traveling around carrying the healing plants to help protect.  The back is secured with a high-grade jeweler’s epoxy – stronger than solder on this type of repoussé hand chased work. Signed with the Sunrise Drum hallmark in twenty-two (22) gauge sterling silver.  See our other design bolos in our last slide – we have several designs in stock.  Each is a little different.
