Description
This book of poems by Emily Pauline Johnson is the second edition. It was published in 1913, the year that she died. Pauline was born on near Brantford Ontario on the Six Nations reserve in 1892.
Johnson was the daughter of hereditary Mohawk Chief George Henry Martin Johnson. She used her great-grandfathers name Tekahionwake when she toured North America and the UK performing her poetry.
There are illustrations by J. R. Seavey. The inscription reads S.R.W 1918 recommended by Chief Sawatis. The Akwesasne Mohawk census 1891 records Arakonkisk-Arakonkiak Sawatis – Chief.
The book is in good shape for it’s age. The pages are all intact, there is some fading around the edges and some wear on the bottom and corners. The spine is in good shape.
