Description

Barbeau explains how finger-woven Assomption Sashes and Garters are made. Included are pictures (20) and illustrations (20) which show and demonstrate the process by including sketches and pictures of the sashes being made by the weavers and the finished product.   They were sold by the Hudson Bay Company and worn by French, English, and Indigenous peoples in Canada and the US.  Today Indigenous people wear them as part of traditional regalia.

This is a facsimile edition from 1972 published by the National museum of Canada  Bulletin 93 Anthropological Series # 24. Pictured in Plate 1 is a color picture of a beaded arrow sash belonging to Dr. Chenier in 1872.  Assumption (arrow) Sashes and Garters. There are few copies of this facsimile. The 51 page booklet has a slight tear on the spine and the cover is a little bit faded.
