16 Star sterling silver brooch – this one 3.25″.  One I made of this same design was sold by someone at an auction as a 1680 brooch – I can now prove I am over 350 years old! – so we will use their description:

c. 1680, Native American Indian Trade Silver, Decorative Shirt Brooch, Choice Very Fine. 2.75” in circumference. Intricate 16-pointed star design reveals the exquisite hand-made craftsmanship of this piece. The silver metal is nicely patinated rich gray to charcoal in pleasing original color, with some attractive lighter silver highlights. These decorative, large brooches were often traded to American Indians for handicrafts, blankets, and beadwork. In wonderful, original condition, having the pinback attached and in place. Very similar in design to examples illustrated in the reference work “SILVER IN THE FUR TRADE – 1680 – 1820” by Martha Hamilton. An outstanding, “Museum quality” example of early Native American decorative silver. The last picture is a copy of the auctioned brooch.

NOTE: I, Paul-René, designed and made the auctioned brooch of this design over 30 years ago.  Someone unknown to me – used acid to oxidize it and and stoned off  my signature on the back – it was offered for SALE in 2006- as a 350 yr old brooch – (I made several of the unique stamps used so I can prove this!)

Alternately- I  CAN NOW SAY I AM VERY OLD!!! So if if you want something authenticated I was there in the past! I must have been born around 1660 in order  to make that one… I had signed the original but obviously it was stoned off – I have included a picture of the auctioned one from Pinecrest – in the last slide.  The current one here for sale is made with mostly the same stamps.
