These are small round sterling earring signed with the SunriseDrum hallmark as part of the design and sterling stamps on the back.  The front is the traditional Eastern Woodland double curve design for new growth and new life.  These curves represent the fiddle heads and young plants of spring with the new life energy found in this spring season. The trees represent people, families, communities and Nations… placed inside the double curves they become energized with new life.  These pine trees are esp. important to Paul-René – this tree was on his grandmother’s moccasins and is related to the tree of peace of the Onondaga people in his family background as well as his Abenaki relations such as the Coosuk Abenaki band where he is enrolled (with a slightly different spelling ‘Koa’ means “pine tree” and ‘koasek’ is “at the place of the little pines”).  The drum represents the heartbeat of Turtle Island / North America and vibrates in people, families, communities and Nations… placed inside the double curves the vibration becomes energized with new life.  These drum is esp. important to Paul-René – he was a pow-wow singer for many years on several drums back in the 1970’s and uses drums in workshops, prayer and sweats.  His last name “Tamburro” also means “drum”.  The sunrise is for all the Eastern peoples of the Dawn or “Wôban” in Abenaki (which is short for ‘Wôbanaki’ or “People of the Dawn”).  It represents also new day new life and renewed energy (as in another part of his name René meaning “rebirth”) these symbols are meant to represent new growth and energy for the wearer.
